When Long Hair Is a Family Affair
From the time she was small, eight-year-old Anna had always worn her hair long—very long. Her flowing locks were, without a doubt, her mother’s pride and joy. Mom spent every morning and evening caring for Anna’s impressive mane, tending to it with an arsenal of creams, oils and lotions packed into every corner of the bathroom.
“Our bathroom cabinets are always overflowing with hair lotions, oils, creams, and other hair products,” her dad clarified on Reddit.
But here’s the twist: Anna’s mom was the one obsessed with long hair, not Anna herself. She lovingly (and sometimes obsessively) brushed, braided, and straightened it for hours—every single day. For poor Anna, mornings had started feeling less like a beauty routine and more like an endless ordeal.
“Even though she looks beautiful with her long hair, she hates getting her hair done and every morning is a festival of shrieking between her and my wife,” confided her dad.
Request Denied—So, Plan B!
Tired of the daily struggle, Anna had repeatedly asked her mom to let her cut her hair. But every time, her pleas seemed to fall on deaf ears. So, Anna did what any resourceful eight-year-old would do: she turned to her dad for help.
Initially, he hesitated—can you blame him? He worried about his wife’s reaction. But the pure excitement shining in Anna’s eyes convinced him to do it. He agreed to take her to the hairdresser so she could finally get the haircut she’d been dreaming of—despite his wife’s disapproval.
“I was reluctant at first because I didn’t know how my wife would react, but I agreed when I saw just how excited my daughter was at the thought of getting this new haircut.”
When the big day came, Anna didn’t hold back: she chose a very short cut, much to her delight.
The Cut—And the Aftermath
The transformation was instant. Anna couldn’t stop smiling! She paraded around the salon, proudly showing off her new look to everyone and even asked her dad to take loads of photos—something she usually hated.
“By the end, Anna couldn’t stop smiling. She showed everyone in the salon and even asked me to take tons of pictures, even though she normally hates having her photo taken,” her dad shared.
But not everyone was thrilled by Anna’s bold move. Some clients in the salon weren’t exactly fans of the short hair. One older lady even remarked:
“Now you can’t even tell if it’s a boy or a girl anymore.”
Homecoming—Not Quite a Happy Ending
As you might have guessed, returning home didn’t exactly go smoothly. Anna’s mom refused to even look at her, locked herself in the bedroom to cry, and eventually left the house in her car. It became painfully clear just how attached she was to Anna’s long hair, but her husband put things in perspective:
“I realized just how much my wife was attached to Anna’s hair, but at the end of the day, I still think it’s just hair. And my daughter was so happy with her new haircut.”
Taking the risk may have shaken up the household, but one thing’s for sure: Anna was absolutely thrilled with her bold new look.
